“Psychoanalysis -- the impossible profession in an impossible era” - Psychoanalysis has always been considered the impossible profession. Today in an era of quick fixes and cyber communication, it may seem even more impossible. However, it has never been more needed. The emphasis on rapid resolution of problems, the preference for the surface over depth, and the pervasive sense of apocalyptic doom all cry out for an answer that involves the interiority of the individual and the collective search for understanding of the unconscious. These issues and others will be addressed as part of an introduction to psychoanalysis.
